My father was founder and president of Gillen Associates Real Estate Ltd. from 1956 until 1978 when the partnership was dissolved. This firm was involved with commercial, retail, and residential redevelopment as agents and as principals. Although licensed with this firm in 1973, and having been virtually raised in the real estate marketing business, it was not until 1975 that I went to work full time at Gillen Associates as a salesman. At this time I became a member of the Toronto Real Estate Board registering first as a sales representative and then as a broker in 1976. I am now a 25-year member of the Board, and have recently earned my FRI designation as a Fellow of the Real Estate Institute.
